I used to love to visit my Grandma on Christmas Eve. I knew she would greet us with her ham and cheese sandwiches. Grandma died when Danny was a baby which has been almost 30 years ago, but her sandwiches still live on with us. We have them not only during the holidays but throughout the year as well. Here is her recipe right out of my cookbook.

I thought it was interesting how another blogger wrote about the types of items that were sold at a holiday craft bazaar in her area. So I decided to do the same thing. Here are some of the pretty things I saw at an Indiana holiday craft bazaar I recently attended.
I love to see how jewelry sales people display their pieces. This model provided for a great conversation piece.

The Ethan Allen furniture store near me had a holiday decorating event. We walked around the store to different rooms of tablescapes as designers shared their great holiday ideas. It was really fun. As you can see here, something as simple as blue ornaments can really jazz things up for the holidays.

We visited the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. I had a special interest in an exhibit there about polio for two reasons. One is because I am a school nurse and continually work with immunizations and the other is because my husband, Dan, contracted polio when he was 3 years old, right before the polio vaccine became available.
The Indiana History Center is located along a beautiful canal where people love to walk.

As I was driving home from work last Friday afternoon, I had the desire to take a little trip. When I got home I found that it was fine with Dan, so we packed up our things and off we went to a small town in southeastern Michigan. Our goal was to attend a Fall festival, but the weather wasn't the best.

Don't you just love the fall festivals? Today was such a beautiful day. Dan and I drove to the small town of Shelbyville to help celebrate Pioneer Days. I just got a new camera, so I couldn't imagine a better place to practice taking pictures. I played with the different effects. There was so much to see!

When I posted a journal I made for Ricki Jill's SMASH Book Party a few weeks ago, one of my readers expressed how much she liked it and would love to have one. So I just completed one for her last night. The picture on the cover of her book was printed from her blog. She loves sunflowers.

Well, it's finally July, 2012. That means it is wedding month for our family, the month we have been planning and waiting for. Our son will be getting married in two weeks!
I have wanted to make a faux wedding cake for my dining room table since he got engaged last fall but it has taken me until this weekend to bring the ideas from my head to material form. Now that it is completed I can see that it was meant to take this long so it would be fresh for these last two weeks to enjoy. You know how sometimes we make things and are disappointed with the results? Well, this is a surprise because I am very happy with the way this cake turned out! This is the first time I have attempted to make anything like this.

My 4th of July table was put together with things I already had in the house. I was looking for a blue table runner when I remembered that Dan had recently gotten rid of a bunch of his clothes when we cleaned our master bedroom closet a few weeks ago.

Pinterest, I love you. Dan loves you too. He enjoyed the deck of cards I gave him tonight expressing 52 of the reasons I love him. There are some great examples of this project on the web here and here. I chose to keep it simple because I just started putting it together today and felt rushed. Actually, I have spent the last couple of weeks thinking about how I wanted to proceed with it until last evening when I found the one that had labels on it. The labels worked great for me and I bound the cards together with my book binding tool.

I had been wanting to make this wreath
ever since I saw it here.
I used a black striped ribbon placing double sided tape every so often onto a 12" styrofoam wreath to help the ribbon to adhere. I had to practice the winding of the ribbon a few times to get it right because it bunched easily if it was pulled too tight. I used straight pins to hold the loop and bow in place.
