Sunny San Diego

We escaped from Indiana for a few days to San Diego to visit our son and his family. What a nice change of weather, from cold and falling leaves to sunshine and the ocean.

When we arrived at the Indy airport for take off, I saw this adorable retro bus full of cosmetics in the hallway leading to the gates. Have you heard of Benefit Cosmetics from San Francisco? Much thought went into this adorable packaging for beauty products! (Later, while shopping with my DIL at Ulta, we saw this brand that took up a huge area of the store! Oh, well - where have I been?) Sometime I'd like to try it out.

We enjoyed our stay at a beautiful hotel in Carlsbad. Dan treated me to a spa package for my birthday - body scrub, massage, facial and lunch! Needless to say, I was very relaxed. I've been dealing with a pinched nerve and pain in my hip to the point I was worried that I wouldn't be able to lie on the tables for the treatments but the spa personnel were very accommodating and things worked out fine.

I enjoy grocery store shopping in other parts of the country and seeing what they have to offer there. I had to have the Ralphs bag with the vintage Woody car on the front. They also had bags with surf boards, of course. Afterwards, our DIL made delicious chicken enchiladas for us.

One evening we ate at the Chart House in Encinitas. Since I have returned to WeightWatchers, Dan showed his support by turning away the bread and ordering salmon with me.

I did a little shopping while in California. I do not like to go shoe shopping so when I found a place I liked in Encinidas last May, I decided to go back and look for some boots. I found not only boots, but also some black shoes just like the natural colored ones I got in May.

Since I have been making sweet potato fries back home, a friend suggested I find the french fry cutter rather than me cutting the potatoes (and my finger) all by myself. I tried this One Step French Fry Cutter and it didn't work (it worked on my finger though - another cut!)! Don't waste your time on this one!

One morning I walked across the street from the hotel to visit the ocean...

and I wrote daily in one of the little journals I sell in my Etsy Shop.

The kids celebrated our birthdays (Dan and I are 5 days apart), and spending time with our adorable 18 month old grandson was the highlight of our trip! We had a lovely visit to California.

Now it's back to 32 degrees weather! We can start planning our next trip out west!

  2. That's so great you were able to come out to CA for your birthday. I've never spent any time in Carlsbad except to run down and see the ranunculus in bloom at the Flower Fields there and your pictures of it look lovely.
I love the shoes and boots you bought - can I ask who makes them? They're so darling and they look comfy - so hard to find that combo!!
ACK! I know all about cutting fingers while cutting vegetables - my knife slipped and I sliced my finger instead of my onion and David had to come home and take me to the doctor. We better both be careful!
    Happy weekend!

  4. Sounds like you had a fun trip. I am another one that does not like to shop for shoes, but need to do so in the near future. There is an Ulta store not far from me, but have not been there. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. We definitely need some warmer temps.
Hope you are enjoying the weekend.
