Out and About with Anita

My friend Anita is always up for an adventure. I can call her anytime and she is ready to go! It's so nice that she lives close by so there is little travel time needed to get where we want to go. We usually stay close to home because there is so much to do in our town! For example, the Goodwill (GW) store closed and reopened a couple blocks down the street (even closer to me now, though it was close before!) We attended the grand opening and it was very crowded with people and stuff to buy! Everyone was so excited to be there!

It didn't take long to fill my shopping cart. We had these yellow dishes in our home several years back and I gave them to a friend. I never had the serving pieces though and couldn't pass them up.

It was a good time for me to shop there because our daughter, Ashleigh, just purchased her first home and it was her birthday (I got a real bang for my bucks LOL). Anyway, I found many things for her new home! She happens to like my colors so it is easy to shop for her. In fact, I was so surprised when I saw the wall paint she chose. It is in-between two of the colors in my home! I found dishes, kitchen cabinet liner, and these house warming cards. Then I remembered we weren't having a house warming party, so I put them back.

I found a couple of things for my little grandson that I will be seeing soon. No, the toothbrush holder had not been used. I think companies donate things to GW that haven't sold, because this ducky had the new tags on it.

After Anita and I had lunch, we went to one of our favorite antique shops. Did I mention how much fun it is to be with Anita? I couldn't believe I saw the whole set of these bowls! We had these bowls along with the Chinese Checkers game in my childhood home. It's rare to see the whole set! My Dad would crunch up graham crackers and pour milk over them in the blue bowl. In the yellow bowl, Mom served us delicious salads and she also stored our Halloween chocolate bars in it. She would put the candy high up on top of the refrigerator to keep it out of our reach, but it didn't deter us me. No siree...I wish she remembered her salad dressing recipe. I know I made it a million times but I only remember that she used Miracle Whip and vinegar.

I saw this button bouquet. I made a button bouquet before and wrote about it here but I think I like the simplicity of this one even better! I like how the wire is simply twisted and the stems have been placed in a mason jar with the inner lid removed. That pink button is to die for! I want to make one like this now.

And finally, I saw this bracelet. I want to make one of these also! There are so many things I want to make. My mind just buzzes with ideas all day long and I cannot keep up with myself!

I look forward to my next adventure with Anita!

  6. Patty you found some great stuff. I was at a Goodwill Grand Opening a few years ago and they said they brought in lots of extra good stuff for the grand opening. I really found tons that time! I loved the button bouquets. I wonder were you reading my mind when you said there were so many things to make and your mind goes all day with ideas. That is how I am, too. Hugs, Dianne

  9. I love spending the day looking for just that something that pops up and says "BUY ME". Glad you have a friend to hang out with that likes that just as much as you do. I still have the ello and green bowl of these bowls you have. Both are my hubby's grandmas but my parents had the set as well. I love the button bouquet as well.

  10. Sounds like a fun day! I wish we had decent things in our GW here in town, it's rare for me to find something I want to bring home. I have a set of the Pyrex bowls that I collected one at a time, so hard to find them at a good set price. Love the button flowers...I have some I made years ago and really should get some pictures.

  11. Oh, Patty! I can't believe you found that whole set of bowls! My dad ALWAYS ate his popcorn in the big yellow one. What a treat! I love the little figurine, and the button bouquets, and the Chinese checkers (one of my FAVORITE childhood games)...do you buy these things or just photograph them in the shops?

  12. What fun Patty! Your lucky that Goodwill has tons of neat stuff in it, I love the ducky! And I'm sure you can make all the stuff you saw at the antique store, minus the bowls! ;-)
