My Home is a Refuge

With the cold, snow and being on vacation until next week, I am feeling kind of home bound, actually in a good kind of way. I am enjoying it very much. Dan and I have taken some short trips here and there during this holiday break, but I have treasured my time being at home, doing things I love to do (cleaning, rearranging furniture and crafting).

I can't help but think of a little project I did awhile back when Nate Berkus visited Oprah at her home right before her show ended. He presented her with a gift of a framed Maya Angelou quote. I can remember immediately getting onto my computer to design one for myself. It was such a beautiful and simple gift:

"Home is a refuge not only from the world, but a refuge from my worries, my troubles, my concerns. I like beautiful things around me. I like to be beautiful because it delights my eyes and my soul is lifted up."

It sits in my bedroom so I can appreciate it every day.

My refuge is right here.

I could stay in my bedroom, My Drake Hotel, all day. Some days I pretty much do.

Dan brings me tea and stops by now and then. I can hear him typing away in his office while he works out of the home.

Maya and Oprah...two special ladies. And I miss seeing both Oprah and Nate's shows.

This is a nice little tribute to all of them, a reminder of the gifts they gave me over the years. My home is a refuge and I thank them for pointing that out.
