Thrift Shopping

Gotta love those dollar bins at Target.

These plastic holders fit into my bathroom spaces and worked great for organizing toiletries and jewelry. It makes me happy to have some order for these things.

And I found two things on a Goodwill excursion. I'm tickled with my $9 lamp. I wasn't sure if I would like it but I was quite pleased. I put a black lampshade on it from another lamp. It has three light settings which are great because I prefer to have it on low during the day.

The other thing I found was a blouse with a pearled up collar. I've learned to look beyond and see how I can repurpose things. I removed the collar so I could cut off the beads.

The reason the pearls caught my attention was because I wanted to add some to this rose I made at the Sweethearts on the Homefront art retreat. Besides, when I purchased this sweater clip at a garage sale, one of the pearls was missing (where the pink arrow is pointing). Would you believe the pearl was the right size for the sweater clip? Also they were smaller than the ones on the rose and with a slightly different shade of color which I think added interest.

Here they are all fixed up.

I put the pearls in this little bottle I found at the Country Living Fair. I'm on the lookout for a little black lid for it. These pretty things placed on my desk make me happy while I blog.

I enjoy seeing what you find at thrifty places. What have you found lately?

  1. Hi Patty, I'm gonna have to check out that dollar bin at Target....a great idea!! I haven't been thrift store shopping in weeks....can you believe it? Busy, Busy! But I agree, so much to find and use....we just need to keep our eyes and imaginations open.....the pearl collar?....PERFECT! I love your glass canning jar with the pearly buttons and pretty with the pearls! Blessings~~~Roxie

  4. I've got to learn to do what you do, Patty--look beyond what's in front of you to what you can repurpose something for. I love the beads in the little bottle--so pretty!

I have to tell you that you inspire me every time I visit, Patty. I am in the process of clearing out a small space in our basement for a "studio" to do some art making. I've had such a creative urge, and I'm not going to let my lack of confidence stop me anymore. :-)

  5. You are a true crafter Patty! Love how you re-used those pearls! love the Dollar bin at Target too, haven't seen those organizers yet, but great ideas on how to use them! Have a fab weekend and enjoy your new gorgeous lamp!

  6. Love the last vignette with the buttons, pearls and the portrait. Is that one of your daughter's pieces?

I continue to envy you your participation at Sweethearts. I need to start saving money so I can attend one someday.

  7. Great finds! Looks like those trays are working out great! I love finding deals in that section too. I love the lamp with the black shade. It looks perfect there. Amazing how the pearls were the exact right size and color for your sweater clip. The rose is beautiful! Have a wonderful weekend!

    $9 for real? SUPER find!

  11. I also use dividers(not those) in many of my drawers. I have not checked out T's $1 bins in a while - need to check them out. Nice deal on the lamp. I also have any lamps on the lowest wattage during the day. Nice find on the collar. I remember when they were popular to wear - age showing. :D

  12. So clever! Love the pearls in the bottle :)

  13. you certainly have a way of seeing beyond what is really there! I would never have thought of removing the pearls!! love how you used them!!
