Pinterest Procrastinations: It's Not Unusual?

I'm continuing on with my January challenge of making some projects that have been on my Pinterest boards for awhile. I have been itching to make this project for a long timeand I don't know why it took me so long to try it because it was very simple. Is it unusual to turn a Tom Jones record album into a bowl? Well, yes, but I did it anyway!

All you do is this: Get the record. Turn on the oven to 200 degrees. Place the record on an upside down bowl on a cookie sheet. Then place in the oven for 10 minutes until it gets soft and droops. I had the oven light on so I could see it start to droop. Then take it out and immediately place it in another bowl to shape it while it is soft. A tutorial with photos can be found here.

For anyone who knows me, I am crazy over Tom Jones and have been since I was 14 years old. I remember lying on the living room floor in front of the huge stereo console listening to his sexy songs. So when I found this idea on Pinterest, my heart went pitty-pat at the thought of turning his albums into bowls. LOL

So I made another bowl out of the "What's New Pussycat?" album. These will make great conversation pieces when we entertain at our bar downstairs. Many of our friends know how much he appeals to me.

Do you have an album you would melt in your oven?

  1. I love the idea of trying old Pinterest pins! Happy New Year to you :-)

  2. That's a neat idea! I don't think I have any albums--they disappeared through the years as I moved here and there. Do you have back-up copies of those albums?

  3. Hi Patty, I have seen these record bowls, but never realized how easy it would be...yours turned out perfect! A great look for retro! I will enjoy seeing your other pinterest projects! Blessings~~~Roxie

  4. That's such a cool idea! I know the thrift stores here have tons of records for like 25 cents. I would totally do it! =)

  5. Now that's recycling.

  6. Back in the 60's we made these in the back window of a car on a hot, hot summer day!! And then we would use them for popcorn bowls at sleepovers and "oldies" parties! Love that this idea is still around - we certainly can't do this with CDs!! Happy New Year!

  7. Thanks for a real blast from the past! I never made a bowl out of an record, but remember when it was a poplar thing to do in the late 60 and in the 70's. Think my age is showing here. :-D
    Stay warm.

  8. Patty,
This is so cool. I loved Tom Jones too!!! What a great idea. I wish I still had all my albums. To cute.

  9. I don't have any records anymore.

    What a cute idea!

So what else is new Pussycat?

  10. This such a cool idea especially for a bar or entertaining room. I am too attached to my albums to do this, maybe if I had duplicates.

  11. Awesome! I've seen this in various crafting books, but have never tried it. Was it easy?? What will you use the bowls for in the bar? So fun!
