What do you do when you have checked out of a hotel two thousand miles away from home and you have a couple hours to fill before the start of an exciting day? Your husband has taken the rental car to make business calls so you must rely on a taxi to take you to your next destination...in a few hours.
I was sitting in the courtyard while on vacation at the Ayres Hotel in Manhattan Beach, in Southern California. I didn't want to go back to my room because our bags were all packed and in the car. I was ready to go but it wasn't time to call the cab just yet. I wanted to sit in the courtyard but I needed to find a way to relax and occupy my time. I decided to write a poem!
The table all metal with filagree
Holds my hat, my purse, and my hot tea.
The flowing fountain gives a soothing sound
While the birds are chirping all around.
A rusted lantern hangs from a tree;
The ferns are as green as green can be.
Statues on posts flank the railing above
And draw my eyes to the miraculous shade of blue that I love.
The sky, oh the sky, what can I say!
It's gonna be another beautiful day.
The arches with swags and tassels inside
Bring me back to the fact that I need a ride.
As simple and goofy as the poem might seem, it was a really enjoyable experience for me. Perhaps some of the rhymes were inspired by my grandson's Dr. Seuss birthday party. What a beautiful place to sit, relax and be creative! When is the last time you wrote a poem?

Loved this!!
