My Cincinnati-Cincinnatian Trip

We traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio, to attend my 40th high school reunion. While we were there, we stayed at the The Cincinnatian Hotel. Did you ever wander around your downtown area and wonder what some of the old hotels are like inside? Well, we had the opportunity to do just that on this trip.

The Cincinnatian Hotel, built in 1882, has an interesting history. It is a small luxury hotel, also referered to a "small boutique hotel." We found it quite charming. I took some photos to share with you.

When we approached the check-in counter, I couldn't help but touch the flowers. Were they real? Yes, I was told they have an in-house florist and all the flowers there are real.

Here is one of the many intimate seating areas in the hotel, this one located in the reception area by the concierge's desk.

Nearby is another seating area (below) which is beautifully decorated.

I have to show you the unique accessories up close. Along with the pair of china dogs, the tall vase with a bust of a lady lid caught my eye

and the pillows on the sofa that add a nice pop to the room.

North of the reception area are the restaurants. It's a classy place.

Even though there is an elevator, we chose to use the grand staircase where the steps and landing are of marble. I thought about the ladies in their long dresses, the guys with their top hats using these stairs long ago. I enjoyed the history lurking in this hotel.

You can also see what had most probably been telephone booths converted into little business cubicles.

I remember back in 2000, when my family and I walked around Cincinnati and there were pig statues all over the city. Here is one by the elevators and I wonder if it was part of the display. You can read more about the pig statues here.

Here is a painting of the hotel from days gone by...

and a few more cozy spaces in different parts of the hotel.

We were surprised when they gave us our door keys. Real brass keys! We were told there are only 3 hotels in the country that still use real keys. And the check out time is NOON - not the usual 11 AM that is part of other hotel's policies.

We didn't dine at the hotel, but we were very happy to find this right behind it:

Yes, we devoured Skyline Chili and enjoyed every bite!!

While out walking, we noticed the beautiful golden entrance to what was once home to the Cincinnati Enquirer (newspaper - my dad delivered the Enquirer in the western hills section for 30 years). It is now Homewood Suites and The Hampton Inn & Suites.

We also saw this mural on the side of a building.

We saw many other amazing murals painted on sides of buildings while out driving.

While waiting for our car, I posed by one of the lions at the entrance of the hotel with my Skyline Chili cup.

We would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

My high school reunion that was held at the Cincinnati Art Museum was great fun! I wore my red and black top in honor of our school colors.

While in Cincinnati, we went to my brother and SIL's home to celebrate my Mother's 83rd birthday.

Three of my five siblings were there. It was so nice to see everyone.

It's always fun to go there. Besides swimming, we go to out the barn to visit with the donkey and the horses.

The sweet donkey looks like a stuffed toy here. He's really soft to the touch.

We grabbed hay and apples and taught the kids how to hold their hand out flat to safely feed the horses.

So that was my trip to Cincinnati, staying at The Cincinnatian Hotel, attending my high school reunion, and visiting with relatives celebrating my Mother's birthday. Vas you ever in Zinzinnati?

Thank you for reading. Wishing you a lovely day!

  2. Hi Patty, What a neat hotel! Thanks for showing us. I had my 40th class reunion 2 years ago. Fun times! Happy birthday to your mom. She looks great!

  3. Happy belated birthday to your mom!!! The hotel is NICE & classy...brass that's special! I'm sure you had a blast at your reunion!!!

  4. Wow, what a fabulous hotel, and so nice to be with your family on your mom's special day. (Our mothers are only 2 years apart in age) I've never been to Cincinnati, but completely know what you mean about the pigs. Vancouver has broken out in a bad case of orcas, eagles, and, last year, samurai warriors on practically every street corner! And my neck of the woods here in North Vancouver, has a rash of rusty metal torsos, minus arms and head, with really giant feet! Wonder who had that bright idea. Oh well, at least the orcas, eagles and warriors are bright and cheerful like your Cincinnati pigs. :D

  5. What a nice visit you had! And I've stayed at the Cincinnatian before....when Shanley and I took our road trip three years ago. I love Cincinnati! :)

  6. Just beautiful, glad you had fun! Belated happy birthday to your mom!
