Snippet Roll Swap

I was invited to join in on Heidi Meyer's (Sugah Beez) Vintage Darlings Snippet Roll Swap. A snippet roll is a compilation of bits and pieces of vintage embellishments attached to a narrow piece of fabric that can perhaps roll onto an old wooden spool. It was something new to me and once Heidi sent me a link to see some examples, I got really excited about making one for my swap partner, Gypsy Rose.

I started out with a piece of old fabric 2 inches wide by 24 inches long, layered a piece of crocheted lace and sewed a piece of pom pom fringe on top of them.

Then I chose four items to highlight the snippet roll: three vintage darlings and an embellished button card. This is the first time I have sewn onto paper. I've been wanting to try it for a long time and I love the results.

Awhile back, I had a bunch of old photos developed by Shutterfly through one of their specials. I was so glad I had these vintage darlings to use on this project.

Bits of lace, trim, brads and buttons I made with my one-inch button machine were used to embellish the piece.

This was a very creative and enjoyable project to make. Once I got going I couldn't stop until it was completed.

Here's a photo of the whole snippet roll, and then rolled up and ready for mailing to Gypsy Rose. I hope she likes it.

In addition to the snippet roll, I wanted to include another little treat for Gypsy Rose. I searched The Graphics Fairy for an image that would tie into her name. I found this sweet girl in a gypsy-style dress with roses and used it to make a card and a journal for her.

Here is the beautiful ballerina snippet roll I received from Gypsy Rose.

It is filled with all of the things I LOVE: tulle, ribbon, pearls, buttons, to name a few...

and several vintage darlings. I love the pink and cream and ballerina theme.

This lovely hand made tag was included in with the snippet roll with embellishments to use on future projects.

I want to thank Heidi for hosting this sweet swap and Gypsy Rose for the adorable snippet roll package. This experience brought a chance to be creative and to meet a new friend. To view other snippet rolls from this swap, click here.

  3. Patty, my snippet roll is beautiful. I love it! Had to take it to sew-in on Friday night to make the gals jealous. (yep, that's the way I am) and had to explain the concept of a swap to them (like I'm an expert - ) lol. I thoroughly enjoyed being your swap partner. (need to take photography lessons from you as your pictures are so much nicer than mine.) Hope to see you in future swaps. Thank you.
