Embellished Photo Cards

What's a woman to do when she loves to make cards and has old photos, glitter, pearls, rhinestones, lace and ribbons sitting around? Well, she should make embellished photo cards, of course!

After I retired in June of 2013, I shopped and gathered all kinds of vintage goods. I felt overwhelmed with everything I had and finally came to the conclusion that I needed to sort my supplies by color. I am finding that it is much easier to find things now!

But back to the cards. These glamor girls have pearls, rhinestones and real vintage crocheted edging.

This lady lies on a background of real lace and fancy words.

This photographer and Edwardian woman are embellished the same way.

The photographer has quite the diamond on her ring finger. The glittered card stock background contrasts nicely with the old photo.

This sweet lady is wearing a lacy blouse. I like the regal looking background she is on.

I love wedding cards, do you? This romantic couple makes me smile. The bride holds a piece of millinery that I clipped from a fancy old hat. The greens of the card stock and bouquet are very pretty together.

I used the circles in this card stock as a guide to place these men from vintage photos. Aren't they handsome? The glittered gold circles were punched from gold glittered cardstock.

The girl with her cat has a glittery dress and a rhinestone choker.

These adorable girls were especially fun to decorate. The girl's dress on the left has real trim around the neckline embellished with rhinestones. A perfect piece of trim makes a beautiful neckline for the angelic girl on the right.

These snow girls are staying warm in their soft winter gear. They are also full of glitter, pearls and rhinestones.

And finally, the graceful ballerinas have glitter under their real tulle skirts. All have rhinestone headbands, and a delicate pink ribbon finishes off the tutu on the right.

It took several days to figure out what I would be doing with these cards. First I trimmed the card stock from several papers and set them aside. Then I cut the figures from the photos and placed them with papers that I thought would enhance them. Finally, I took to the glue stick, put them together and added the final embellishments. It was a wonderful and fulfilling experience.

Do you like to embellish vintage photos?

  1. These are so much fun Patty -- I could look at them all day! I have heard from others about sorting supplies and embellishments by color and I wasn't a believer but, like you, I am starting to think it's a good way of going about things!

  5. These are truly "pretty things!" You've embellished them perfectly.

I love the idea of sorting by color. It seems that's the way I hunt for things, but I've never actually sorted my vast amount of goodies that way. Need to try it!
