Crafts, Crafts & More Crafts

Yes, I've been crafting. It's my life. Here are some classes I recently took at the library. First of all, we learned about calligraphy. I found that it takes a great deal of practice.

Another night I made a plaque with the design "Be the Music That You Want to Hear" on it. We lightly sanded the plaque and brushed off the sawdust.

With the foam brush, we applied an even coating of Liquitex Matt Gel Medium to the wood. Then we placed the image face down on the wood. We firmly smoothed out the image on the wood, making sure we pressed evenly to remove any creases in the paper. We let it sit overnight.

The next morning I dampened the paper with water and started rolling off the paper with my fingers. It was messy; that's why I put plastic bags underneath.

It took a long time to rub off all of the paper to allow the image to show through. After waiting a few days, I applied a thin coat of Mod Podge to seal it. I think I will display it on an acrylic stand.

And finally, we made an angel from coffee filters.

I am also a part of an amazing art group. Here are our latest projects.

Here is a page I made for a group member's circle journal. Her theme is "favorite place". My favorite place is Indiana. I cut the shape of Indiana, a pink glitter castle and glued the castle in the area of Indiana in which I live. As I was working on this project, I couldn't help but think of the song that Jim Nabors sang each year at the Indy 500 race "Back Home Again in Indiana". So I wrote the lyrics to the song around the Indiana shape.

We worked as a class on a journal page.

We started out by spraying water and paint on the page on the right.

We added a transparent overlay on top of that page.

On the other page we cut out a heart and sprayed around it.

We crinkled the page...

then rolled it through a machine that makes the back sticky.

Then I adhered the heart to the page on the left. And here are my pages.

And for my final project to share with you, we started with circles and squares

and used a toothpick to make a fold line to bring the sides up.

We drew diagonal white lines on a black board to guide us in placing the pieces.

We made this quilt-like design.

We placed the art work in a black frame, adding some embellishments.

The little bottles were filled with paint and glitter.

Thank you for reading my blog post. Hope you are taking the time to do things you really enjoy too!

Hiking Historic Irvington

I've been wanting to get back into walking with the Indianapolis Hiking Club. I've joined them many times in the past, but life got in the way. It's a great way to get exercise. Not only that, but you get to meet really nice people, learn from them and see beautiful neighborhoods. Sometimes we have lunch together afterward.

The way the hiking schedule works, is a hike will usually occur each week for a month. When checking the hiking schedule, I noticed that an Irvington hike was taking place 4 times in May. Two of them had already passed, but I was able to make it to the last two hikes. So I'm happy to say that the Irvington hikes got me started again.

Dan and I have roots in Irvington where we purchased our very first home in 1978. I always enjoy seeing our first home and reminiscing about our early married life there. What else do I like about Irvington? The quaintness of the neighborhood; the winding roads; the huge trees that make me want to be a kid again and climb them; the camellia, mulberry, honeysuckle bushes and the clovers that bring me back to when I tied them into necklaces; the unique homes, many of them with touches of whimsy. I could go on and on, but meanwhile, here are some photos I took during our hike.

Library Wine & Cheese Pairing Class

Wait! A wine and cheese pairing class at the library? Yes, you read that correctly! That's what I attended a couple of weeks ago. A local wine shop spokeswoman taught us about wine while we sipped 6 different wines and snacked on cheese, crackers and other appetizers.

April Art Class: Distress Oxide Inks

This month we worked with tags to learn how to create beautiful designs with distress oxide inks.

At my space at the table was this adorable black envelope held together with a string and washi tape. Inside were the tags we would be using in class. We also received an instruction sheet that detailed 10 different designs for the tags.

New Items in the Shop

It's so nice to be creating again, developing new products for my Etsy Shop. I took some time off due to our move in August, and then the holidays rolled around. I have a fabulous new space to work on my shop items, a loft, in our new home. I am tickled pink! Someday I will show you as I'm still organizing some things.

This year I decided I would be better in delivering my own personal birthday cards to those I love. So that means I will be making new creations which will also go into my shop. Here are some I recently made:
